Limiting the contact search scope to user's own group or department

Last Updated : Jun 10, 2026 |

About this task

By default, Avaya Aura® Device Services searches for contacts in all groups and departments of all LDAP directories selected for contact search. You can limit the search scope so that the user can only search for contacts that belong to the user's own group or department.

When enabled, this limitation applies to all LDAP directories in your deployment. The configured search rules apply to both Avaya Workplace Client normal search and quick search functionality.

Note:

When you change the contact search scope, the changes are immediately applied to the normal search only. For the quick search, a client continues to use the previously configured search scope until the user re-logs in to the client.

Before you begin

Select LDAP servers you want to use for contact search as described in Selecting LDAP servers for the contact search. Avaya Aura® Device Services searches for contacts only in the LDAP directories that you selected for contact search.

Procedure

  1. On the Avaya Aura® Device Services web administration portal, navigate to System Parameters > Parameter Configuration.
  2. For the RESTRICTED_CONTACT_SEARCH parameter, select the appropriate value as follows:
    • true: To exclude contacts that are not a part of the user's own group or department when the user searches for contacts.

    • false: To include contacts from all groups or departments of all LDAP directories enabled for contact search, when a user searches for contacts.

  3. Click Save.
