Configuring network settings for the virtual switch

About this task

After creating a virtual switch, you must set up network settings of your company.

Before you begin

Configure a virtual switch.

Procedure

  1. From the Windows Start menu, navigate to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  2. On the Network and Sharing Center page, click the Hyper-V virtual switch that you created.

    For example: vEthernet (Hyper-V External Virtual Switch).

  3. In the Status window, click Properties.
  4. In the Properties window, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • If your organization uses DHCP to assign network addresses, select Obtain an IP address automatically.

      Important:

      Use this option if you are planning to use the Utility Server.

    • If your organization uses static network settings, select Use the following IP address and then configure the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway as appropriate for your organization.

  6. Click OK
  7. If you are planning to use IPv6 in your deployment, in the Properties window, select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click Properties.

    If you do not require IPv6 in your deployment, continue from step 10.

  8. Do one of the following to configure IPv6 settings:
    • If your organization uses DHCP to assign network addresses, select Obtain an IP address automatically.

      Important:

      Use this option if you are planning to use the Utility Server.

    • If your organization uses static network settings, select Use the following IP address and then configure the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway as appropriate for your organization.

  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Close twice.
