Creating required virtual hard disks for the virtual machine

Last Updated : Jun 05, 2026 |

About this task

By default, Hyper-V creates a virtual machine with a single virtual hard disk. Avaya Aura® Device Services requires four virtual hard disks. You must add the required virtual hard disks manually.

You must create three additional virtual disks with the following disk sizes:

  • First additional disk (Disk 2): 70 Gb

  • Second additional disk (Disk 3): 40 Gb

  • Third additional disk (Disk 4): 10 Gb

Before you begin

Create a virtual machine.

Procedure

  1. Start the Hyper-V Manager.
  2. In Virtual Machines, right-click your virtual machine and then select Settings.

Hyper-V Manager displays the Settings window for the virtual machine.

  3. In the Hardware area, select SCSI Controller.
  4. In the right area of the Settings window, select Hard Drive and then click Add.
  5. In the Media area, select Virtual hard disk and then click New.

Hyper-V Manager displays the New Virtual Hard Disk Wizard.

  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Choose Disk Format window, select VHDX and then click Next.
  8. In the Choose Disk Type window, select either Fixed size or Dynamically expanding and then click Next.
    Note:

The Fixed size disk type provides better performance for Avaya Aura® Device Services.

  9. In the Specify Name and Location window, in Name, type a disk name of your choice.

For example, for the first additional disk, type Disk2 and so on.

  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Configure Disk window, do the following:
    1. Select Create a new blank virtual hard disk.
    2. In Size, type the disk size according to the following table:

      Disk

      Size (Gb)

      First additional disk (Disk 2)

      70

      Second additional disk, (Disk 3)

      40

      Third additional disk (Disk 4)

      10

  12. Click Next.
  13. Verify the virtual disk settings and then click Finish.

Hyper-V Manager creates an additional virtual hard disk for your virtual machine.
