Restoring an entire cluster of Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway

Last Updated : May 30, 2024 |

About this task

You can restore an entire cluster of Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway if a failure results in the loss of all the nodes in a cluster.

After restoring one cluster node as the seed node, install the remaining nodes as non-seed nodes using the silent or interactive installation method. All the non-seed nodes synchronize the data and configuration files from the seed node.

Note:

This topic is not applicable if you upgrade Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway to version 1.0.5 or later. For guidance, contact Avaya Cloud Operations.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you install the Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway software.

  • Ensure that you restore the configuration and data files from a previous backup of a node.

Important:

Ensure that the Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway software and the backup are the same version.

Procedure

  1. To reinstall the same version of the Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway software as the backup, do the following:
    1. To re-image the nodes, redeploy the Open Virtualization Appliance (OVA).
    2. To install Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway, run the following commands:
      • chmod 770 AHCG-<version>.bin

      • app install AHCG-<version>.bin

    3. On the Initial Installation Configuration page, select Cluster Configuration.
    4. On the Clustering page, set Initial Cluster Node as y (Yes).

Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway is installed with the basic load.

    5. To restart the Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway service, run the following command: svc csa restart
  2. To change the ownership of the backup file to <admin_user:admin_grp>, run the following command: sudo chown <admin_user:admin_grp> <full_path_to_backup_tar_zip_file>
  3. To restore the backup data one node at a time, first on the seed node and then on all non-seed nodes, do the following:
    1. To restore the backup data, run one of the following commands on the node:
      • app restore <backup_tar_zip_file>

      • app restore <backup_tar_zip_file> -P <PASSWORD>

In these commands, <backup_tar_zip_file> is the .tar.zip backup file.

In the second command, <PASSWORD> is the password you used to create the backup. If you do not enter a password, Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway prompts you to enter the password later.

      Important:
      • If you did not enter the password for backups, enter the password when prompted. If the password is wrong, Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway prompts you to reenter the password.

      • After three failed attempts, Avaya Hybrid Cloud Gateway aborts the restore process. You must run the app restore command again.

You must wait until the restore process is complete on the current node before restoring data on the non-seed nodes.

  4. To install other nodes as non-seed nodes, do the following:
    1. On the Initial Installation Configuration page, select Cluster Configuration.
    2. On the Clustering page, set Initial Cluster Node as n (No).
    3. On the Clustering page, enter the IP address of the cluster seed node, which is the first node restored with backup.

Use the same keystore and database password that you used while installing the initial cluster setup. The non-seed nodes synchronize the data and configuration details from the node first restored from the backup.

  5. From one of the nodes, run the following command to repair the Cassandra database: sudo /opt/Avaya/CallSignallingAgent/<version>/CAS/<version>/cassandra/cassandraRepair.sh -M
