Avaya Control Manager-External Data Mart co-resident deployment overview

Last Updated : Nov 25, 2022 |

Avaya Oceana® supports Avaya Control Manager and Context Store External Data Mart (EDM) deployment on the same Microsoft SQL Server. With the end of support of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server is the only supported database platform for EDM.

Database migration

From Avaya Oceana® 3.8 and later versions, a new migration script facilitates the migration of the EDM data from:

  • Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server

  • Postgres to Microsoft SQL Server

  • Old schema-based Microsoft SQL Server to the new schema-based Microsoft SQL Server

For more information on migration, see Upgrading Avaya Oceana® .

Footprint reduction

The co-resident deployment of Avaya Control Manager and EDM provides the following reductions in the overall hardware requirement of each separate database server:

  • Memory requirement reduces from 28 GB to 24 GB.

  • vCPU/node requirement reduces from 16 to 12.

  • Hard disk requirement reduces as follows:

    • Avaya Control Manager databases require 700 GB.

    • EDM database requires a variable amount of disk space based on the Avaya Oceana® deployment size.

The following table displays information about the hardware of co-resident deployment of Avaya Control Manager and EDM:

Note:

EDM requires 8 GB hard disk space per million contacts closed. The requirement does not include the disk space required for SQL transaction logs or database backups. Therefore, configure SQL Server Agent jobs to take regular (hourly is recommended) EDM transaction log backups, full EDM backups (daily at a quiet time is recommended), and clean up old backup files. Since Oceana 3.8.2.0, you can download SampleSQLServerAgentScripts.zip from https://support.avaya.com/ or https://www.devconnectprogram.com/. For more information on configuring the SampleSQLServerAgentScripts, see the Configuring automated SQL Server Agent jobs topic in the Deploying Avaya Oceana® document.

Licensing cost reduction

The co-resident deployment reduces the cost of separate Microsoft SQL Server licenses for Avaya Control Manager and EDM.
