A Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) authentication scheme whereby user passwords are encrypted prior to being sent across the Internet, thus certifying the integrity of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) data. The downside of DA is that although passwords are encrypted, the data being exchanged is not; it is sent in the clear.
