Updating the Avaya Aura® MS VMware virtual appliance to enable secure boot

Last Updated : Mar 25, 2025 |
Prolog information
New Avaya Aura® MS appliances are deployed with the appliance software already installed and the secure boot configuration set appropriately. When updating an existing VM to an Avaya Aura® MS appliance software version 10.2.0 SP1 or newer, the secure boot setting can be enabled.
Versions prior to 10.2.0 SP1 do not support secure boot and will encounter errors if secure boot is enabled.
Enabling secure boot is not required to run any version of the Avaya Aura® MS appliance but is recommended to increase the security of the system.
Some VMs may be configured to use the BIOS boot option instead of EFI/UEFI. This procedure only applies to VMs using the EFI/UEFI boot option.
  1. Log in to the VMware® host by using the vSphere Client Windows application, the vSphere Web Client for vCenter, or the VMware Host Client and locate the VM that you want to update.
  2. To shut down the VM, right-click on your VM and select Power Shut Down Guest OS.
  3. To update the VM configuration, right-click on the VM and select Edit Settings...
  4. Select the VM Options tab at the top.
  5. Expand the Boot Options section. Check the Enabled checkbox for the Secure Boot item.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Note:
If the Firmware is set to BIOS, this procedure is not applicable.
  6. To apply the changes, click OK.
  7. To start the appliance, right-click on the VM and select PowerPower on.
