vMotion

vSphere vMotion enables zero-downtime, live migration of workloads from one server to another so that users can continue to access the systems to continue to stay productive for both in-cluster and cross-cluster migration.

Note:

Vmotion support for Avaya SBC is available within same vCenter.

In-cluster Migration

  • Change compute resource only

  • Change storage only

  • Change both compute resource and storage

    Note:

    Cross vCenter Server export is not supported.

cross-cluster migration

  • Enable EVC Feature for vMotion to work for cross-cluster. This feature is native to vmware and is supported ESXI 7.x version of vmware.

  • Pre-configure matching network interfaces before initiating vMotion.

  • Simultaneously migrate both compute and storage for vMotion to work for cross-cluster scenario.Cross-custer migration supports Change both compute resource and storage only.

  • The following options are not supported:
    • Compute Only vMotion

    • Storage Only vMotion
