Creating a new database

Last Updated : Feb 10, 2025 |
Prolog information
To create a new database, use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Set the appropriate collation type for the desired language when creating the database.
Important:
If you select a collation type that does not support the Unicode characters for the desired language, Context Store EDM does not store those Unicode characters. For example, to store Russian characters and set the Collation Type to Cyrillic_General_CI_AI, the application stores only the ASCII and Cyrillic characters and not other Unicode characters, such as Arabic.
Before you begin
You must have:
  • A Windows server with an MS SQL server installed on it.
  • A valid database administrator credential.
  1. From a Remote desktop, connect to the Windows server running SQL Server.
  2. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  3. Connect to the database engine as an administrator.
  4. Expand the server node.
  5. Right-click Databases and select New Database.
  6. Enter the appropriate information in the following fields:
    1. In Database name, enter a name for the EDM database.
    2. In Database files, click Add and specify the EDM data files path.
      ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
For EDM within Oceana, the recommended initial size for the EDM is 300 GB.
    3. In Database files, click Add and specify the EDM log files path.
      ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
For EDM within Oceana, the recommended initial size for the EDM transaction Log is 20 GB.
You must take hourly transaction log backups to prevent the EDM transaction log from growing rapidly. Since Oceana 3.9, sample SQL Server Agent scipts are provided to assist in automating the transaction log backups. You can download the SampleSQLServerAgentScripts.zip from https://support.avaya.com/ or https://www.devconnectprogram.com/.
For more information on configuring and automating EDM transaction log backups, EDM full backups, and cleanup scripts using the SampleSQLServerAgentScripts, see the Configuring automated SQL Server Agent jobs topic in the Deploying Avaya Oceana® document.
    4. Click OK.
  7. To set the collation type, click Options.
  8. In Collation, select the required collation type for the desired language.
  9. Click OK.
