In a survivable remote environment, each IP endpoint and each H.248 media gateway is manually configured with a list of call controllers during initialization. If for any reason, the communication between an H.248 media gateway and its primary controller stops, the H.248 media gateways and the IP endpoints register with a call controller on its list. If the Survivable Remote Server (SRS), formerly known as Local Survivable Processor (LSP), is in the list of call controllers, the H.248 media gateway and the IP endpoint registers with the SRS. The H.248 media gateway registers with the SRS first before the IP telephone registers with the SRS.
The Processor Ethernet (PE) interface on the SRS is used for:
Connectivity to three adjuncts: Call Detail Recording (CDR), Application Enablement Services (AE Services), and Call Management System (CMS)
H.323 and H.248 registration
