Uploading and copy the VMDK file

About this task

This process uploads the upgrade vmdk file to the VMware datastore used by the IP Office virtual machine.

Procedure

  1. Login to the VMware platform hosting the virtual machine.
  2. Using the datastore browser, upload the upgrade vmdk to a folder on the datastore:
    1. Select the datastore hosting the virtual machine.
    2. Create a new folder by clicking the add folder icon. Do not use folder that contains the virtual machine's vmx and vmdk files.
    3. Click on the upload icon.
    4. If prompted to install the client integration plug-in, follow the instructions and then click on the upload icon again.
    5. Select the upgrade vmdk file and upload it to the new folder.
  3. Copy the upgrade vmdk file to the first virtual machine that needs upgrading.
    1. Select the uploaded upgrade vmdk file and click on the copy icon.
    2. Browse to the datastore folder of the virtual machine and click OK.
    3. The process of copying the file within VMware will expand the size of the vmdk file from 4.5GB to 200GB. You cannot use the file for upgrading until you have expanded it.
    4. Wait until the process displays "Complete". The process displays "100%" when nearly finished, however you must wait until it shows "Complete".
