About the Avaya Aura MS appliance

The Avaya Aura® MS appliance is a software appliance that combines the Avaya Aura® MS software and an optimized Linux® operating system in a single and integrated package.

Avaya appliances are closed systems maintained by Avaya. Avaya manages all software and software updates on appliances. Avaya does not support appliances that have non-Avaya software or software updates installed.

A deployed Avaya Aura® MS appliance includes the following:

  • Avaya Aura® MS software

  • Avaya Aura® MS Element Manager (EM)

  • Security-hardened Linux® operating system

  • Customer administrative account

  • Pre-configured AVAYA support accounts

There are two types of Avaya Aura® MS appliances:

  • Virtual appliances: Avaya Aura® MS appliances in VMware® or KVM on RedHat® virtualized environments.

  • Physical appliances: Avaya Aura® MS appliances on Avaya Common Servers.

This document contains the procedures for all types of Avaya Aura® MS appliances. Ensure that you use the procedures that are appropriate for your appliance type.

Important:

Avaya also provides a non-appliance, software-only, application version of Avaya Aura® Media Server which is installed on servers that you provide. For non-appliance installations, see Installing and Updating Avaya Aura® Media Server Application on Customer Supplied Hardware and OS.
