Cleaning Avaya Aura Messaging communication profile data from System Manager

Last Updated : Jun 10, 2026 |

About this task

Starting with System Manager 10.2.x, the administration of Avaya Aura® Messaging (AAM) is no longer supported. If you have an older release, then before upgrading to System Manager 10.2.x, you must first clean the AAM data from System Manager.

Before you begin

  • Back up Avaya Aura® Messaging (AAM).

  • Take a snapshot of AAM.

For more information, see Upgrading Avaya Aura® Messaging for Single Server Systems or Upgrading Avaya Aura® Messaging for Multiserver Systems.

Procedure

  1. Create a backup of the primary System Manager and copy it to the remote server.

For more information, see Creating a data backup on a remote server.

  2. Create a snapshot of the System Manager application.
  3. Export all System Manager users that have an AAM communication profile in Microsoft Excel format.

For more information, see Administering Avaya Aura® System Manager.

  4. Update the AAM Communication profile section and set Delete Subscriber on Unassign of Subscriber from User or on Delete User to false.

If you do not set this field to false, there is a risk of deleting your mailbox from AAM.

  5. Import the Microsoft Excel sheet into System Manager to merge user's data.
  6. Export the Microsoft Excel sheet to your computer.
    1. Wait for the export job to complete.
    2. Verify that the user data is accurate.
  7. Edit all users to remove or unselect their AAM communication profile association as follows:
    1. Export all System Manager users associated with an AAM communication profile to Microsoft Excel and XML format.
    2. Confirm that all users who have an AAM  communication profile have the Delete Subscriber on Unassign of Subscriber from User or on Delete User value set to false.
    3. Remove the AAM communication profile section from each user in the XML.
    4. Import the users using an XML file with the Replace option. It must be in XML because this is the only supported format for the Replace option.

For more information, see Administering Avaya Aura® System Manager.

  8. Verify that System Manager users are no longer associated with an AAM communication profile and that the subscriber data is preset in the AAM server.
    1. Export the data again and verify it.
    2. Confirm that mailboxes are no longer associated with users on the System Manager AAM Subscriber page.
    3. Confirm the users are still present natively on the AAM interface.
  9. Create a backup of the primary System Manager and copy it to the remote server.

For more information, see Creating a data backup on a remote server.

  10. Delete the AAM and System Manager snapshots.
  11. Continue with your upgrade.
