Configuring syslog

Last Updated : Mar 17, 2025 |

About this task

The syslog service records phone events that the support engineers can view during troubleshooting. Enable syslog and set a severity level to log events, store the logs locally or on a syslog server, and set the log categories.

Procedure

  1. Press Main Menu > Administration.
  2. In the Access code field, enter the administration menu password and press Enter.
  3. Scroll to Log and press Select.
  4. Scroll to Syslog enabled and press Toggle to enable.
  5. Use the Right and Left Arrow keys to set a log level corresponding to the SYSLOG_LEVEL parameter value:
    • Emergencies: SYSLOG_LEVEL=0

    • Alerts: SYSLOG_LEVEL=1

    • Critical: SYSLOG_LEVEL=2

    • Errors: SYSLOG_LEVEL=3

    • Warnings: SYSLOG_LEVEL=4

    • Notices: SYSLOG_LEVEL=5

    • Information: SYSLOG_LEVEL=6

    • Debug: SYSLOG_LEVEL=7

The phone logs the events with the severity levels equal to or higher than the set value. For example, if you set the value to Critical: SYSLOG_LEVEL=2, the phone logs all events that are Critical, Alerts, and Emergencies.

  6. Scroll to Log categories and press Select.
  7. Press Toggle and set the required Log Categories for the troubleshooting scenarios.
  8. Optional To configure a syslog server, scroll to Syslog server and enter the IP address or FQDN.
  9. Optional To set a secure mode for the syslog transfer, scroll to Log server secure and press Toggle to enable.
  10. Press Save.
