Upgrading the ESXi host

The following is an example for upgrading a host to an updated version of ESXi using a .iso file burnt to DVD. However, you can use the other methods of upgraded supported by the customer's vCenter. Refer to the VMware documentation.
  • For Avaya ASP130 servers, you must use the files provided by Avaya. Refer to the Avaya Solutions Platform files and documentation available from https://support.avaya.com.
Before you begin
  1. Complete the preceding steps in the ESXi maintenance checklist. See Checklist for Avaya Breeze platform ESXi host maintenance for.
  2. Burn the ESXi upgrade .iso file to DVD.
  3. Obtain a license for the updated version of ESXi.
  1. Put the ESXi host into maintenance mode:
    1. Open a web browser and connect to the ESXi web host client.
    2. Login using the existing root credentials or temporary admin account if applicable.
    3. Right-click on Host and select Enter maintenance mode.
    4. When a Confirm maintenance mode change window opens, click Yes.
    5. Right-click on Host and select Shut down. Your browser session ends.
  2. Follow the VMware instructions for installing the new ESXi version from DVD,

    • When prompted, ensure that you select the upgrade option. Selecting any of the install options will erase the existing ESXi and all its virtual machines with no chance of recovery.
  3. After the ESXi host has upgraded, take the ESXi out of maintenance mode:
    1. Open a web browser and connect to the ESXi web host client.
    2. Login using the existing root credentials or temporary admin account if applicable.
    3. Right-click on Host and select Exit maintenance mode.
