You can configure customization modes to completely or partly block users from customizing phone keys. Available customization modes are the following:
  • Blocked: The administrator uses Avaya Aura® System Manager (SMGR) and the PHONEKEY definitions to fully control all phone key customization. The administrator fully controls the phone screen. The phone interprets all values for the PHONEKEY parameter as forced even if you do not configure it.
  • Limited: All buttons appear in the same location as you define in SMGR. A user cannot move these buttons but can modify the labels. A user can control Contact and Application favorites.
  • Full: Full phone screen customization is available to a user. This is a default mode.
If you select the Limited or Blocked customization mode, you can completely control the system buttons locations on the phone from SMGR without configuring the PHONEKEY parameter. Blocked and Limited modes differ only in the additional user capabilities to control Contact and Application favorites.
In Blocked or Limited mode, you must configure phone keys in Avaya Aura® System Manager (SMGR) and download changes to the phone. The phone forces all the call appearances, bridged appearances, feature buttons, and autodial buttons to appear in the same location. The user cannot delete or move them. For the feature buttons and autodials, only buttons that you mark as favorites are displayed on the main phone screen. You can control where the buttons appear on the phone and prevent users from moving them.
You can configure customization modes in 46xxsettings.txt or use web UI. The phone applies new settings after log out or reboot.
When you set the Blocked mode, the phone applies the following settings:
  • Removes all existing Contact favorites.
  • Ignores the PHONEKEY definitions for any SMGR defined buttons.
  • Removes all existing Application favorites without PHONEKEY in the settings file.
  • Forces SMGR configured buttons to the system-defined locations and removes duplicates.
  • Only autodial and feature buttons defined as favorites in SMGR are displayed on the phone.
  • To assign a local feature to a line key, you can configure the PHONEKEY parameter in the settings file.
When you set the Limited mode, the phone applies the following settings:

  • Forces all SMGR defined buttons marked as favorites to appear on the line key specified by the SMGR defined location. The phone keeps non-SMGR items if there is no conflict with SMGR settings.
