The operation and maintenance of the system printer data link is different from the Call Detail Recording (CDR) and journal printer data links. For example, the system maintains the CDR and journal printer data links in a constant link up state. The system activates the data link once every 15 minutes or when you want to print a report or when you schedule an immediate report.
The system printer data link has three states that identify the operational condition:
Link up: The data link is in the link up state when the communication path functions correctly and exchanges data successfully. The communication path includes software processes, hardware cables, and printers.
Link down: The data link in the link down state refers to all times, except when the system prints the reports or the maintenance personnel disables the link.
Maintenance busy-out: The data link is in the maintenance busy-out state when you run the busyout sp-link command. The system disables the software processes and link retry operations.
For smooth functioning, monitor the operating status of the system printer and perform routine tasks. The routine tasks include refilling the paper bin, clearing paper jams, and verifying that the printer is plugged in and is functioning.
Note:
You cannot run the busyout sp-link command by using the Basic Call Management System (BCMS) login. You must run the busyout sp-link command only by using the maintenance login. Therefore, as necessary, all nonmaintenance personnel must turn off the system printer to refill the paper bin and to remove the jammed paper.
If the system printer link generates a warning alarm or a minor alarm, contact the maintenance personnel.
