About this task

You can use the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to monitor the codec status from a network management station (NMS).

Procedure

  1. On the Settings menu, go to Network > SNMP.
  2. On the SNMP page, to enable and configure the SNMP protocol, toggle on the Enable SNMP switch.
  3. For the SNMP Version setting, select the SNMP protocol version.

Version 1 is a basic SNMP version that uses community strings and provides two types of communities: read-only and read-write. Version 2c has an improved security and communication and additionally supports GetBulk and Inform messages. Version 3 provides enhanced security features.

  4. In the NMS Address field, type the NMS IP address to which the codec sends SNMP messages.
  5. In the NMS Trap Port field, type the port number for sending trap messages.
  6. In the Community field, type the community string to access the NMS.

The community string must match on the codec and NMS.

  7. In the Contact field, type the contact information about the person managing the SNMP server.
  8. In the Location field, type the SNMP server location details.
  9. In the System Name field, type the codec name that the NMS uses.
  10. In the System Description field, type the codec description that the NMS uses.
  11. Click Save.
