Certificate type based on public key cryptography standards (PKCS). PKCS #12 certificates usually have .p12 or .pfx filename extensions. As compared to the PEM certificate type, PKCS #12 is more secure and stores multiple certificates and a private key in a single file. PKCS #12 is the preferred way to transport and exchange private keys because of the stronger encryption.
