Upgrading the codec software

Last Updated : Sep 11, 2024 |

About this task

You can obtain the codec software updates from a server, USB drive, or folder on your computer. If you want to obtain the updates from a server, you need to specify the server IP address and the upgrade file folder. You can also determine if you want to check and apply the updates immediately or at the next reboot of the codec.

Important:

Do not power off the codec during the upgrade process as this action might corrupt the file system and require a factory reset.

Before you begin

Ensure the following:

  • If you want to obtain the upgrades from a USB drive, check that it has a storage capacity of 2 GB or more and format it using the FAT32 file system. Upload the update.xml and <codec model>-ota-AVAYA-v<version>.zip files to the root directory and insert the drive into a USB slot on the codec back panel. For more information about using a USB drive as the upgrade file source, see Upgrade process for Avaya Room System C100 Series.

  • If you want to obtain the upgrades from a file server, upload the update.xml and .zip files to the file server directory that you later specify as the upgrade file source.

  • If you have more than codec model in your environment and you use the file server as the upgrade method, create separate folders for each model and place the update.xml and .zip files accordingly.

Procedure

  1. On the Settings menu, go to Others > Upgrade.
  2. On the Upgrade page, select the Enable Upgrade check box.
  3. To check if there is a newer version of the upgrade file on the server when the codec boots up, select the Check New Version On Startup check box.
  4. To upgrade the codec immediately after saving the configuration, select the Forced Upgrade check box.
  5. For the Select Upgrade Mode setting, select one of the following options:
    • Upgrade Via Network: To obtain the upgrades from an HTTP server.

    • Upgrade Via USB Storage: To obtain the upgrades from a USB drive.

    • Upgrade By Uploading Via Browser: To browse and select the upgrade archive from a folder on your computer.

Uploading the upgrade archive manually is less secure as the codec does not use the update.xml file and checksum validation.

  6. If you selected upgrades from an HTTP server, in the Upgrade Server Address field, type the IP address of the server and the folder to obtain the upgrade files in the following format: http://<server IP address><folder name>.

For example, if you created separate folders for different codec models, you can type http://<server IP address>/C190. For more information about the folder structure and upgrade files, see Upgrade process for Avaya Room System C100 Series.

  7. If you selected upgrades from your computer, click Select Zip File and browse to the folder to select the <codec model>-ota-AVAYA-v<version>.zip file.
  8. To check if there is a newer version of the upgrade file on the server or USB drive now, select the Check New Version Right Now check box.
  9. Click Save.
