System Manager component

The System Manager component works in conjunction with the EPM to keep the MPP functioning in an optimal state. In addition, System Manager provides the following functions:

Function

Description

State management

Starts and stops all processes in response to start or stop commands from the EPM. Monitors the health of the processes and attempts to restart any processes that exit prematurely, appear deadlocked, have stopped responding.

Configuration management

The EPM downloads configuration information to the MPP during startup. Configuration updates can also be downloaded to the MPP while it is running. The System Manager transfers the information to the other MPP components of the change, if needed.

License management

The EPM manages port licensing for each MPP and passes that information during MPP startup and later if licenses need to be redistributed. The EPM downloads all licensing changes to the MPP.

Resources monitor

The EPM monitors CPU usage, memory usage, and disk usage for each MPP. The EPM checks the state of these resources at predetermined intervals during EPM polling operations. If at any time the use of these resources crosses thresholds set on the EPM, Resource monitor issues an alert.

The System Manager also monitors for network errors between the MPP and the EPM.
