Adding a Branch Session Manager instance

About this task

You can administer a SIP entity as Branch Session Manager instance using:

  • Session Manager Administration pages.

  • Manage Elements pages.

Endpoints use the listen ports to connect to the Branch Session Manager. You can map different listen ports to different domains. You administer the listen ports on the SIP Entity page.

Use this procedure to add an enterprise or edge Branch Session Manager.

Procedure

  1. Verify the SIP entity exists and is administered as type Session Manager.
  2. To add a Branch Session Manager instance from the Session Manager Administration page:
    1. On the System Manager web console, click Elements > Session Manager > Session Manager Administration.
    2. Click the Branch Session Manager Instances tab.
    3. Click New.
  3. To add a Branch Session Manager instance from the Manage Elements page:
    1. On the System Manager web console, click Services > Inventory > Manage Elements.
    2. Click New.
    3. From the Type field, select Session Manager.
    4. When the screen refreshes, from Select type of Session Manager to add:, select Branch Session Manager.
    5. Click Continue.
  4. On the Add Branch Session Manager page, in the General section, do one of the following:
    • To add enterprise Branch Session Manager instance, in SIP Entity Name, select the Branch Session Manager SIP entity.

    • To add edge Branch Session Manager instance, in SIP Entity Name, select the edge Branch Session Manager SIP entity.

      When you select the edge Branch Session Manager SIP entity, Session Manager:

      • Renames Management Access Point FQDN/IP to Management Access Point FQDN.

      • Displays the Network Topology and Remote Access Configuration fields.

  5. Optional In Description, type a description.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • For enterprise Branch Session Manager: In the Management Access Point FQDN/IP field, type the FQDN or IP address of the management interface of Branch Session Manager.

      The Management Access Point FQDN/IP field accepts only IPv4 addresses even when you create Session Manager instances for entities supporting IPv6 or Both address families.

    • For edge Branch Session Manager: In the Management Access Point FQDN field, type the FQDN of the management interface of edge Branch Session Manager.

  7. In the Main CM for LSP field, select the main Communication Manager of the SRS that is linked to the Branch Session Manager.

    You can click the View / Add CM Entities link to add new Communication Manager applications.

  8. Select Enable for Direct Routing to Endpoints.
  9. Select the Maintenance Mode check box if you are:
    • Staging a non-operational Branch Session Manager.

    • Pre-administering a Branch Session Manager on System Manager prior to host installation.

  10. Select the Adaptation for Trunk Gateway from the drop-down menu, if required.
  11. Verify the following:
    • For enterprise Branch Session ManagerThe Network Topology field displays Enterprise.

    • For edge Branch Session ManagerThe Network Topology field displays Edge Branch.

  12. In Remote Access Configuration, select the remote access configuration for the edge Branch Session Manager instance.

    This step is not applicable for the enterprise Branch Session Manager instance.

  13. Specify the appropriate information in the remaining required fields.

  14. Click Commit.
