Maintenance mode overview

Last Updated : Jun 10, 2026 |

Avaya Spaces Calling Gateway Maintenance mode is intended for use when you perform procedures that involve shutting down or restarting Avaya Aura® Web Gateway nodes, such as upgrading Avaya Aura® Web Gateway. When in Maintenance mode, some of the Avaya Spaces Calling Gateway features are disabled to ensure safety of the procedures.

The following features are unavailable in Maintenance mode:

  • Failover and failback operations for Avaya Spaces users registered on Avaya Aura® Web Gateway.

By default, Avaya Aura® Web Gateway moves users registered on a node to other nodes if the node is down. However, In Maintenance mode, Avaya Aura® Web Gateway does not move users to other nodes when you restart or shut down a node.

  • Opting in Avaya Spaces users on Avaya Aura® Web Gateway from the Avaya Spaces Admin area.

If the Avaya Spaces administrator tries to opt-in a user, Avaya Spaces informs the administrator that the opt-in functionality is unavailable because Avaya Spaces Calling Gateway is in Maintenance mode.

  • Performing new calls using Avaya Spaces Calling.

  • Updating the user status using the Refresh status button from the Avaya Spaces Admin area.

The following features remain available in Maintenance mode:

  • Completing the ongoing calls.

Avaya Aura® Web Gateway does not drop any ongoing calls established before you enable Maintenance mode. However, some mid-call operations might be unavailable when in Maintenance mode.

  • Opting out Avaya Spaces users from the Avaya Spaces Admin area.

Important:

Maintenance mode is intended for cluster Avaya Aura® Web Gateway deployments. Do not use Maintenance mode if you have a standalone deployment.

If you use Avaya Spaces Calling Gateway, a typical workflow for an operation that requires Avaya Aura® Web Gateway restart looks as follows:
