Cause

The called endpoint cannot be reached because the CALLED PARTY NUMBER information is invalid or incomplete.

This cause value has end-to-end significance. Communication Manager returns this cause value back to the user who originated the call.

Proposed Solution

Procedure

  1. Check Cause Value Information Element (LOC). See Location codes.
  2. Check Communication Manager administration for the cause value generated by the network.
    1. Dial-plan/Location: The incorrect administration of home NPA causes incorrect code conversion.
    2. IXC: The incorrect administration of IXC matching pattern or a dial plan without an IXC matching pattern causes incorrect IXC manipulation.
    3. AAR/ARS digit conversion: An incorrect digit string is substituted. The call is routed to the wrong network and over the wrong route pattern. Further conversion is needed but the dial string is restricted from further conversion.
    4. AAR/ARS digit analysis: Call type is incorrect for the call made with an incorrect number type or an incorrect information, or the call type prevents code conversion. Call routes to an incorrect route pattern with incorrect digit manipulation or code conversion or both.
    5. ARS toll analysis: An incorrect toll or no-toll classification causes incorrect code conversion at the route pattern.
    6. Route pattern: The incorrect administration of NPA causes incorrect code conversion. An incorrect value entered in the Prefix mark field causes incorrect code conversion. Toll list in combination with prefix mark causes incorrect code conversion. Incorrect number of digits are deleted or incorrect digits are added. IXC or international code digits and user-dialed IXC code fail to parse, or IXC routes the call to the wrong interexchange carrier. Incorrect service or feature is specified for the call made on a CBC trunk group preference. The dialed number is changed to an incorrect number format.
  3. Check administration for the cause value generated by Communication Manager.
    1. Trunk group: Incoming call handling table causes Communication Manager to delete or insert the wrong digits or number of digits to match the dial plan.
