Allow for text expansion

Last Updated : Sep 01, 2022 |

Text that is translated from English usually requires more space in the target language. Depending on the language, estimates for additional space requirements vary from 30% to 200%.

To allow for this expansion of translated text, keep headings and labels concise. When including an SVG image with call-out text, keep call-outs brief and leave room for expansion when the image is translated.

Text expands vertically for Asian languages. Line spacing and font size might need to be increased by about 50% to fully display characters and maintain readability. Font type, font size, and type direction can all change in Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and Asian languages.
