Periods with abbreviations

Last Updated : Jul 17, 2012 |

Do not use periods with abbreviations.

Exception for in., no., a.m., and p.m.

Use periods with the abbreviations in. for inch, no. for number, a.m., and p.m. Do not include a space after the first period in a.m. or p.m. Do not include a double period when any of these abbreviations ends a sentence.

Note:

You can abbreviate inch and number in narrow table cells when you must save space, but not in text.
