Abbreviations

An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. For example, hi-res is the abbreviated form of high resolution.

This section does not include the abbreviation rules for time, measures, weights, and similar units.

Acronyms

An acronym is formed from the first letters of a group of words. For example, PIN is the acronym for Personal Identification Number.

Usually, acronyms contain all capital letters, but they can sometimes contain lower case or mixed case letters. Do not invent acronyms.
