To prevent ambiguity, do not use suspended compound modifiers. Instead, repeat the omitted or suspended portion of the word or phrase, or rewrite the sentence to eliminate the modifier.
Sometimes, the modifiers in a compound modifier are separated by an intervening word. In a suspended compound modifier, a part of the modifier is separated from the rest of the compound.
