The following are general guidelines for common prepositions:
Use at when referring to a location or link. Only describe the location of a UI element if required for clarity.
Use on when opening a window, page, or tab for the first time in the procedure.
Use in when you are already navigating through the content in the UI. For example, if you return to a window multiple times during a procedure, use in after the first reference to the window. Ensure that you also use in with elements such as fields and dialog boxes.
Use from to indicate a starting point, origin, or range. You can also use from for connections from one location to another. A UI element, such as a list or area, can be the starting point from which you perform an action.
Use between to indicate range. Depending on the context and phrasing, either use from or between for range. In most cases, between works well in sentences with and, while from works well in sentences with to.
More than one preposition might be appropriate depending on the context. When in doubt, consult with a colleague or the editor.
