An independent clause is a sentence. Words that introduce independent clauses are and, but, for, or, nor, so, and yet. These words are also called coordinating conjunctions. When the second independent clause in a sentence begins with a coordinating conjunction, use a comma before the coordinating conjunction.
Tip:
An independent clause has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought.
