Ranges

Use the word through or to to describe inclusive ranges of numbers. Do not use a hyphen (-) or an en dash (–).

Type a number from 1 through 31 in the Date field.

Type a number from 1–31 in the Date field.

The transfer time is approximately 5 to 8 seconds.

The transfer time is approximately 5-8 seconds.

Exception for ranges in tables

Use a closed en dash (–) for numeric ranges in tables but only when you must save space.

Note:

A closed dash is a dash without space on either side.
