Column headings

Capitalize the first word of each column heading and all proper nouns that the heading contains.

When all column entries relate to the same unit of measure, include the unit of measure or the abbreviation in the column heading. Enclose the unit of measure or the abbreviation in parentheses. Do not repeat the unit of measure within the cells in that column. For an example, see the sample table Table : 1.

Exception for case-sensitive words

If the first word of a column heading is a case-sensitive lowercase word, rewrite the heading. If you cannot rewrite the table title, do not capitalize the first word.
