Use a comma in numbers that consist of four or more digits.

Exceptions for numeric items that usually do not include commas

Do not use commas in:

  • Numbers that designate baud, such as 9600 baud

  • Numbers that designate a year, such as December 12, 2004

  • Page numbers, addresses, telephone extensions, or decimals

  • Part numbers and product codes
