The Category 1 devices do not need an end user to administer a Presence Services address or an Avaya Presence/IM communication address. Instead, the device automatically gets this information through Personal Profile Manager (PPM) web service of Session Manager. The Presence Services address is returned as a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), which the device resolves to one or more IP addresses using DNS. FQDN addressing is required for Presence Services features such as High Availability and Geo Redundancy.
