Access Endpoint

Last Updated : Aug 21, 2014 |

Use the Access Endpoint screen to administer an access endpoint or a Wideband Access Endpoint (WAE).

WAE is an endpoint application connected to line-side non-ISDN T1 or E1 facilities. WAEs do not have signaling interface with the system. You can administer WAE only if Wideband Switching is enabled for the system.

An access endpoint is a nonsignaling trunk that neither responds to signaling nor generates signaling. You can use access endpoints to assign an extension number to a single trunk and eliminate the need to dedicate an entire trunk group for a single trunk. You can specify an access endpoint as the originator or the destination endpoint of an administered connection.

Note:

Access endpoints and WAEs use the same resources that the trunks use. Therefore, the sum of access endpoints and trunks cannot exceed the maximum number of trunks available in the system.

To change the value of the fields on the Access Endpoint screen, use the following command:

add access-endpoint next, where next is the next available extension.

Communication Type

Use this field to specify the communication type for the access endpoint.

Valid entry

Usage

56k-data

For a DS1 access endpoint. You can use this option for the robbed-bit trunks. The default value is 56k-data.

64K-data

For a DS1 access endpoint. Do not use this option for the robbed-bit trunks.

voice-grade-data

For an analog tie trunk access endpoint.

wideband

For a WAE.

COR

Use this field to assign a class of restriction (COR) number to the access endpoint. You must administer this field so that only an Administered Connection (AC) endpoint can be connected to another AC endpoint.

COS

Use this field to assign a class of service (COS) number to the access endpoint. You must administer this field so that Communication Manager restricts the use of the Call Forwarding All Calls feature on the access endpoint.

Extension

Use this field to assign an extension number to the nonsignaling trunk.

ITC

Use this field to assign a transmission facility to the access endpoint. The system displays this field only if the Communication Type field is set to 56k-data, 64k-data, or Wideband.

Valid entry

Usage

restricted

Restricted transmission facilities are used to complete the call. Before using this option, ensure that the associated port of the access endpoint is a channel of a DS1 media module and the Line Coding field of the DS1 media module is set to B8ZS. The default value is restricted.

unrestricted

Unrestricted transmission facilities are used to complete the call.

Name

Use this field to provide a name for the access endpoint.

Note:

Avaya BRI deskphones support only ASCII characters because non-ASCII characters, such as Eurofont and Kanafont, show up incorrectly.

(Starting) Port

Use this field to assign a port number to the access endpoint.

You can assign the port number by using one the following formats:

  • gateway number : module number : port number

    Valid entry

    Usage

    001 to 250

The first three characters represent the gateway number.

    V1 to V9

The fourth and fifth characters represent the module number.

    01 to 31

The sixth and seventh characters represent the port number.

Note:

For WAEs, use the DS1 media module, not analog tie trunks.

TN

Use this field to assign a tenant number to the access endpoint. You can enter a value from 1 to 250.

Width

The system displays this field only if the Communication Type field is set to wideband. Use this field to provide the number of adjacent DS0 ports beginning with the specified starting port that make the WAE. You can enter a value between 2 to 31. The default entry is 6.
