Group Paging Using Speakerphone

Last Updated : Oct 29, 2012 |

Assigns digital speakerphones to a paging group. Users can page all the telephones in the group simultaneously by dialing the group extension.

Example command: change group-page n, where n is the assigned group number.

Alert

Set this field to y for telephones that require an alert message to ring for an inbound call from a group page number. For example, Spectralink wireless telephones. Communication Manager does not activate the speakerphone of the Spectralink wireless telephones for a group page number. Therefore, the users do not hear the call ring from a group page number until the users manually answer the call.

Note:

Most of the Avaya telephones have the auto-answer capability, so if you set the Alert field to y, an Avaya telephone does not ring because the group paging initiates immediately.

Value

Usage

y

Telephones, such as Spectralink wireless, receive an alert to ring for an inbound call from a group page number.

n

Telephones, such as Spectralink wireless, do not receive an alert to ring for an inbound call from a group page number. This is a default value.

ASAI

Value

Usage

y

Enables ASAI events for paging groups. Enabling this functionality creates large spikes in the messaging traffic to the application.

n

ASAI events are not forwarded to the application for any call that has a paging group as parties on the call.

COR

Valid Entry

Usage

0 to 995

A class of restriction (COR). To page the group, users’ class of restriction must give them calling permission for the group’s class of restriction.

Ext

Assigns a telephone extension to the group.

Group Extension

The extension users dial to page the members of this group.

Group Name

A name for the group that is informative to users. The callers’ telephone displays when the caller pages the group. Accepts up to 27 alphanumeric characters.

Note:

Avaya BRI deskphones support only ASCII characters because non-ASCII characters, such as Eurofont and Kanafont, show up incorrectly.

Group Number

The identifying number the server running Communication Manager assigns to the group when it is created.

Group Timeout (secs)

Valid Entry

Usage

0 to 600

Administer a timeout in seconds for the group page. After timeout, the paging party will be disconnected. The default value is 0 for no timeout.

Name

The name assigned to each extension in the group.

Note:

Avaya BRI deskphones support only ASCII characters because non-ASCII characters, such as Eurofont and Kanafont, show up incorrectly.

TN

The tenant number for this paging group. With tenant number, group paging can be partitioned by tenant.

Zip Tone Timer (secs)

If you set the value of the Zip Tone Timer (secs) field to 2 seconds, Communication Manager times out after this time and plays a Zip tone.

If you set the value in the Zip Tone Timer (secs) field to greater than 2 seconds and less than or equal to 10 seconds, Communication Manager tries to terminate every member of the group page within 2 seconds. If the attempt is successful, Communication Manager plays the Zip tone. Otherwise, Communication Manager sets the timer for the remaining time. After the second timer times out, Communication Manager plays the Zip tone and does not wait for any member of the group page to answer the call.

For example, if you set the value as 6 seconds, Communication Manager tries to terminate every member of the group page within 2 seconds. If the attempt is successful, Communication Manager plays the Zip tone. Otherwise, Communication Manager sets the timer for the remaining 4 seconds. After the 4 seconds timer times out, Communication Manager plays the Zip tone.

The range for this field is 2 through 10 seconds, and the default value is 7 seconds. If you set the value of this field between 2 through 6 seconds, the system displays the following warning message: Group page may not reach all members with timer value less than 7 sec.
