Program the service profile identifier (SPID) to the extension with which the telephone is to be merged.
Unplug the telephone.

Connect the telephone to the intended port.

Listen for the dial tone.
If you hear dial tone, the merge is complete.
If you do not hear dial tone, the SPID of the telephone is an unavailable extension.
