Licensing options

AE Services has two licensing options: standard and enterprise-wide licensing.

In a standard licensing configuration, you install the standard license file (SLF) on the AE Services server, and the local WebLM server controls the licenses.

AE Services supports enterprise-wide licensing. With enterprise-wide licensing, you can purchase any number of licenses and then allocate these licenses to multiple AE Services servers. You can share all AE Services server features and Rights To Use (RTU) among AE Services servers. This applies only to the AE Services features licensed in the AE Services license file.

The following table shows the difference between the standard and enterprise-wide AE Services licensing:

Standard licensing

Enterprise-wide licensing

The standard license file is used for a standalone AE Services server. A standard license is generated by the Product Licensing and Delivery System (PLDS) from a system record for the AE Services server.

Enterprise-wide licensing includes a master enterprise license file (ELF) and an allocation license file (ALF).

  • The master enterprise license file is generated by the PLDS from a system record for the enterprise. You can upload the master license file to an AE Services server or a dedicated WebLM server.

  • The allocation license file is generated by WebLM based on the features in the master license file and user allocations on the AE Services server. You can upload ALF or ALFs to one or more AE Services servers.

You can install the standard license file on the AE Services server. AE Services and the WebLM server are normally co-resident.

The WebLM server does not have to be co-resident with AE Services, but each local WebLM server is normally co-resident with the AE Services server that it licenses.

You cannot move a license from one server to another, and cannot reallocate the capacities.

You can reallocate enterprise capacities and features to any AE Services server.
