Performing a CMSADM backup

Last Updated : Oct 16, 2024 |

About this task

A file system backup option is available when you run the cmsadm command. Ensure that you back up your CMS data to a network mount point. Tape drives are not supported with the latest CMS releases and USB storage device backups are not supported in virtual environment deployments.

Procedure

  1. Log in to CMS with root privileges.
  2. Run who -r to verify that your operating system is in multi-user mode.

The command output should display run-level 2 or 3.

  3. Run cmsadm to display the CMS Administration Menu.
  4. Enter the number associated with the backup option.
  5. When prompted to choose a backup device, enter the number associated with the Other option.

Do not select the tape option. You should use a network mount point for the backup process.

  6. Enter the directory path for the network mount point you are using for the backup.

After the backup has been written, it is verified and CMS displays a message such as the following:

    xxxxxxx blocks

    xxxxxxx blocks
WARNING: A CMS Full Maintenance Backup in addition to this cmsadm backup
must be done to have a complete backup of the system. . . . .
