Avaya Contact Center – Extended Capacity uses SIP servers to establish connections between endpoints and manage connection sessions. SIP servers also update endpoint parameters, transfer and modify media parameters during the SIP session. You can add external servers, such as Session Border Controller, to the contact center for managing calls and endpoint subscriptions.
A SIP server can do the following:
Set up a connection between multiple endpoints.
Transmit media parameters and specifications for the communication session for each endpoint using the SDP protocol.
Modify media parameters and specifications during a session. For example, a SIP server can update the related media parameters when the agent puts a call on hold.
Update endpoint parameters. For example, a SIP server can update the related media parameters when the agent transfers a call to another agent or endpoint.
Terminate a session.
On the SIP Servers screen, when adding or editing SIP servers, you can specify the protocol, destination port, and IP address to establish a connection. You can later assign the SIP server to the dial plan for call processing. You can also link a number adaptation to the SIP server to convert incoming and outgoing calls from the local dial plan to the dial plan administered on the Configuration Server.
