Importing Transport Layer Security certificate from System Manager

About this task

After creating the certificate, you must import the Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate from System Manager and save it in the personal folder on your MS SQL server.

Before you begin

  • Create a TLS certificate in System Manager.

  • Download the TLS certificate from System Manager to your local machine and save it in a folder on your MS SQL server.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the folder where you saved your p12 file.
  2. To open the Certificate Import Wizard page, do one of the following:
    • Double-click the p12 file.

    • Open certlm.msc from the Windows Search window: On the Certificates-Local Computer page, right-click Personal, and click All Tasks > Import.

  3. On the Certificate Import Wizard page, select Local Machine, and click Next.
  4. Click Browse, specify the certificate file to import, and click Next.
  5. To maintain the private key security, enter the password you entered when creating an end-entity in System Manager, select the Include all extended properties check box, and click Next.
  6. To select and import the certificate, do the following:
    1. Select Place all certificates in the following store.
    2. Click Browse.
    3. In the Select Certificate Store window, select Personal and click OK.
    4. On the Certificate Import Wizard, click Next.
    5. To import the certificate, click Finish.
  7. Press windows+R, and type certlm.msc.
  8. Click OK.

    In the navigation pane, expand the Personal > Certificates folders.

  9. Double-click the required certificate.
  10. Click the Details tab.
  11. Click Edit Properties, in the Friendly Name field, enter a name of your choice for the certificate.
    Tip:

    To choose this certificate instantly when enforcing the TLS connection, you must save only one certificate in the personal folder of your MS SQL server.

  12. Click OK.
