Tape drives are no longer supported with the latest CMS releases and USB storage devices are not supported in a virtual environment. Therefore, you should be using a network mount point as your backup device. You must keep enough free space on your device for scheduled maintenance backups. This means that you must periodically check the network mount point for available space and remove older backup files to increase the storage space. Ensure that you include the network directory in the system backups of your company's non-CMS servers.
Consider the following best practices for maintaining your backup storage device:
  • Do not store CMSADM and maintenance backup files on the same network mount point. Create separate network directories for your CMSADM backups with adequate storage for at least two backups.
  • Ensure that your network directory has enough storage for at least two full maintenance backups and the accompanying week's worth of incremental backups. If you are backing up multiple servers, increase the storage accordingly.
